Working around horses and machinery I would spend all my time at the doctors and get nothing done if I headed to the doctor every time I had lost hide or flesh. I don't think I have had a week that I didn't have blood from something. I have one that is just now after three weeks that looks almost healed from getting tangled with a gate and a stud horse trying to get at a mare in heat. Lost more than hide. A big scab on the other arm from getting pinched between a gate and the shelter siding. I keep up on my shots for lock jaw and wash the wounds well with soap and cover them for a while. I have never had one infected. We are not all equal in our make up. Some are made out of better stuff that fights off infections than others. Some people get infections from a simple sliver from no fault of their own.
