I have a September calf that I just banded today. He had gotten through sorting at weening so I just banded him. I was going to turn him out with the heifers that weren't big enough to breed. The chances are slim, but I don't need him breeding anything. I used the big calf crank bander which usually takes 30 days or so to slip the jewels completely. How long before the boy won't have any lead in his pencil? The blood supply is cut off now, but there has to be residuals for a while. He sure acts like a little bull through the gate. I don't need a random calf out of him - that's what my registered bulls are for!
