The 3 point hitch system that Ford used was developed by Harry Ferguson. Ford happened to be the manufacturer willing to incorporate it into their tractor design. Ferguson was influenced by David Brown and manufacturers such as Deere used a rockshaft assembly well prior to the introduction of the 9N in 1939. History could have unfolded an entirely different way with somebody else pioneering a parallel linkage type lift or Harry Ferguson could have gone with a different manufacturer to implement his design. It has been that Ferguson chaffed with Ford and his Company almost from the time the first 9N rolled off the assembly line.
