The shaft just goes out the bottom. You need to remove the nut and find a pipe/socket that fits over the threads but is smaller than the shaft. Then you can drive it out. The best way is to press them out with a Porta-power. You can use a hydraulic jack too. Use an "I" beam or heavy square tube. set the jack on the top of the shaft. Then lay your beam/tube across the jack. Then chain the tube/beam on each end to the mower frame. So when you tighten the jack up the chains will hold the tube/beam and then the jack will press the shaft out. It is better than hammering the shaft and damaging the threads.
I have done several of them for a neighbor. It is simple machine but those shafts can be hard to get out.
