I use pesticide boxes for fertilizer on my 71 but had to open up the slot in the bottom with a rotary file to get enough to come through. Without doing this you just won't be able to apply enough fertilizer to do much good, even on the widest open position. I set mine up to dribble the fertilizer right in front of the press wheel. It isn't as good as getting it in the ground but as long as you get a rain soon after it's better than nothing.
