I also think... the the lowered oxygen content slows down the oxygenation or deterioration on the tire/tube...So they remain softer and flexible longer. This has the benefit of reducing heat.. And heat reacts with oxygen and makes tires deteriorate faster. Old stiff tires will heat up and tear apart quickly upon being flexed.
So its a snowball effect and eliminating oxygen is a good thing in the life of a tire. I dont know that I can prove it, as it just my thinking. I have been wrong before, just ask my wife.
