Given the nature of gasoline, and that those plastic spouts, both on metal and plastic containers always crack or tear at some point, I'd be more concerned with safety than the police.
Eagle type I safety cans are a pretty good deal, given the type II are almost double in cost. I've switched over to type I's, never thought I'd like the bulky but removable spout, thinking the type II with the flexible nozzle/spout would be better, these work just fine. Keep in the shade, the vapors exhaust slowly if you are careful opening the spring loaded lid. They pour satisfactorily, maybe not the quickest, but what approved fuel can of late does anyways?
