All roof areas need thought on the required venting. I have seen frost on the wood sheeting under an asphalt roof, especially in buildings with animals breathing water into the air. Metal roofing is more likely to cause rain since it does not absorb the melting frost and release it during the day time warm up.
To me, eve vents are a must to prevent ice dams forming on the roof over hang and the resulting water damage.
