My grandmother would ask me to get some sassafras roots in the spring, about March, and bring them in to dry. Then boil them in water to make the tea. She said it was to thin the blood after winter. How do you identify sassafras plants? I learned at the age of 14. Break a twig off of the plant, and if it smells like a barrel of apples, you have it. Do you remember when apples came in barrels. Our schools used to get barrels of apples supplied by the government. Yes, I will admit to being over 40.
