The GEM module is actually acting as a body control module. It controls most functions related to the body of the truck - such as windows, wipers, power accessories, etc. As soon as you start trying to hotwire functions of this module, you are asking for trouble. Connect the wrong wire, and you might risk fire or just end up disabling the rest of the functions of this module.
As others have said, you will be better off to replace the module. I can sympathize with the $800 price tag, but there are outfits that refurbish automotive modules for a small fraction of the cost from the dealer. The last one I bought was from an outfit in Florida. $200 for a refurbished Chrysler ECM.
Short of rewiring the entire truck, replacing the module is by far the easiest and most economical repair.
As a side note, this points to why I posted a previous thread about "deal breakers" in newer cars and trucks. They have gone TOO FAR with electronics in vehicles.
