The guns most routinely call assault weapons are nothing of the sort. Since the GCA of '86, the prices, and regulations on true fully automatic, assault weapons has gone through the roof. That being the case, most civilians that own them keep them in a safe more than they ever shoot them. Looking back, the only time I remember anyone using a full auto weapon in a headline making crime was the two guys with the AK's, full body armor, etc, etc in California some years back. Beyond that, like I said, finding the use of one in a crime is rare to say the least.

That said, if you read other things said by the Founding Fathers, most didn't agree with us having a standing Military Force. Instead, the citizens were the Militia/Military. In many states, NC being one of them, we, the citizens of the state, are still considered the unorganized Militia, and are subject to call out by the Governor if the need arises.

That being the case we were expected to have modern weapons and know how to use them. Unless THE Constitution, or our state constitution is changed, those same requirements are still very much in effect regardless of what the media would like us to believe.

To discuss more on the term 'assault weapon' look at a Mini-14 or Mini-30. Many anti-gun types would look at them in their factory wood stocks and say they are 'hunting rifles'. However, change the furniture to something with a pistol grip, put a muzzle brake on it, and put in a mag with more than 5 rounds, and all of a sudden the whole rifle has changed. It's now MORE POWERFUL than it once was, and now is good for nothing but killing people.

The whole media driven idea behind those 'evil assault weapons' is ridiculous to say the least. Not trying to be mean here, but when discussing weapons, please remember this and avoid giving the Left the very false advertising they love to hear coming from gun owners by calling a semi-automatic rifle (just like millions of others) an assault weapon based on nothing but looks. Again, to be an assault weapon it has to be fully automatic.

Too, and remember this also. THEY talk about the 'assault weapons' as if they were something new, and modern. Funny thing the first real assault rifle was the German STG44. If you guessed it was fielded way back I 1944 you'd be right.

The "modern" AR15 is based on Eugene Stoner's AR10 chambered in .308, which was developed a few years later in the mid 50's. As we all know it eventually morphed into the Militaries' original M16, and now the M4.

Too, don't let the Leftists declare that AR stands for "automatic rifle" because it doesn't. In fact it stands for Armalite Rifle, the company he was working for when he designed it.

In regard to the original post, I know many gun owners that are just about to the point of utilizing the last of the boxes suggested when our Government stops doing what We The People tell it to do. IF gun registration was mandated I can see it being ignored by at least 99% of the population...especially those in rural areas. IF confiscation ever came into being, I believe it would turn into a war of attrition......and I truly believe 'THEY' would lose. There are far too many guns, and gun owners out here for them to even think about pushing us to that point. It would not be a good idea.......

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
