: What experiences are out there with the proper thinning for spraying John Deere paint. Is there an alternative to using JD thinner ($) or will something else work just as well? Thanks!
I am currently painting 4440. Have done 430 and 730 several years ago. Off brand greens tend to fade to blue soon. Use JD paint and thinner even though it costs more. You wont be happy in
the future if you dont. Dont use other brand thinner either! I spray with 40lbs pressure, 1:4 or 1:5 thinned. Dont get in a hurry! Cover with thin coats you can still see through. Cover
with three or four coats. Lightly sand out runs after two days and before you apply another coat. Final coat should be heavier than others, make it look wet and shiny here but this is where
runs are most likely---be careful! Keep spray gun clean. Start from center of hood, spray lengthwise and cover before painting sides.
Good luck, Bill in Ala strickland-ww@redstone.army.mil

My current collection includes a 1938 F20, 1945 H, 1946 H, and the recently purchased 1951 H. This article will focus on what I encountered and what I did to bring the 1951 NEAR DEATH Farmall H back to life. ... [Read Article]
