I had just came from the Ford truck forum and my mind (what little I have) hadn't switched from truck to tractor when I read the post.
Yes block the front and roll the rear end and trans back, I just got done splitting a 5030 to repair the trans, I block the front end and engine with wedges between the axle and engine, I rolled the rear axle and trans back and then blocked the axle up so I could pull the trans. After I repaired the trans I hung it back on the rear end with a cherry picker then rolled it back up to the engine.
