For many people the opportunity to get a good deal is what draws them to e-bay, much like an auction sale.
Numerous times I have been the high bidder on an item after which I promptly paid for the purchase only to have the seller cancel the sale with some B S about they checked the item and it is not working or some other excuse.
Two days later the same item is relisted with a higher starting bid.
One item I bought had no reserve on it and I was the only one who placed a bid.
Seller contacted me stating they could not possibly let the item go for the amount of the high bid, e-bay could care less and let the seller keep on going.
When e-bay started it seemed 90% of the listings were people getting rid of things much like they would at a garage sale, now 90%+ of the items listed are from commercial sellers trying to make a living off of e-bay.
This is fine and still useful if I am trying to find and buy a new part but the atmosphere of the whole thing now is like going to the mall versus going to a farm sale.
