The bell housing on a truck like that is what usually holds up the rear of the motor and the transmission hangs off of the back of the housing.
I personally would probably pull the transmission, take the bolts you mention out, put a board across the back of the oil pan and gently jack it up a little and pull the bell housing. Then you can get to the clutch.
What you are asking will work and you wouldn't have to pull those rear mounting bolts. Pull the bell housing to motor bolts, unhook the front mount and anything else that holds it in. Things like the radiator, exhaust, fuel line, linkages and wires other possible things.
Hmmm, to me I would sooner pull the tranny unless you need the motor out.
