A very similar situation: I live in NC. Back in the 90s when It was still reasonably cheap to have tractors hauled, I bought a Minneapolis Moline from a collector out in Kansas. I had to find a Hauler to pick it up in Kansas and bring it to bring it to NC. It got rained on during the trip so it wouldn't start when It arrived. When we lifted the hood to file the points, we found a rather big pocket knife that had managed to stay in there between the valve cover and the manifold the whole 1500 or so miles from Kansas.
I e-mailed the collector and they said no. It wasn't theirs. About two days later, I got another e-mail back from them saying their "hired man says he can't find his pocket knife anywhere". So I mailed it back to them and got a very big thank you reply. It makes you feel good knowing you did the right thing.
