Any of you that own an 86 series IH probably know how stupid the connection between the hyd control lever and the actual control valves is. I need to reseal the control valves on our 1086, and decided to find a better way to make a replaceable connection that wears itself instead of the actual spool of the control valve. I found these little ball joints in the McMaster-Carr catalog. One has a 5/16 hole in the ball, and the other has a 1/4" hole in the ball. One has 5/16-24 externally threaded shank, and the other has 5/16-24 internally threaded shank. I just added the nut to lock the two into position. The hole in the spool was worn enough that a 1/4" bolt will go through it, and the hole in the bottom of the lever has a 5/16" hole where the clevis pin went through. So, when bolted tight against the spool and the lever, the ball itself will pivot. The cost? About $16 to fix both valves on the tractor, so I bought enough to do our 1086 and 1486, cost $38 with shipping. Much better, no more sloppy levers.
