Don't take this the wrong way, but many farmers here in kY went into CREP and some other handout programs and have done very well. One friend of mine gets $370 an acre to grow weeds and mow 1/3 each year. If you can make that farming for corn it ain't around here. This practice has gotten common along with when grain went up no one left a blade of grass unturned and now getting hay for cattle difficult. And since grain went down no one can stand the expense of resowing grass, so rents are decreasing. This is marginal grainland and I expect to see a few of those guys that jumped in over their heads to drown. At any rate some farmers do get money from government and at one time you could find on gov.org how much and subsidys looked pretty big on paper.
