I grew up on a large for the time cattle and sheep operation in North Louisiana, over 200 mama cows and 2500 ewes, we also fed out the lambs and the calves in addition to others bought in, this was during the 50's to the early 70's. There was never any shortage of work to do, all hay was put up in small squares, ear corn shoveled from crib to wagon then to hammer mill and sacked, all manure forked after scraping up with tractor blade, feeding was done by tub and bucket, all good honest labor, I loved it at the time and still do. The fact of the matter is if we still performed the high level of physical labor that we did back when along with eating wholesome farm produced food we would be a lot better off, add that together with todays medical advancements and everybody would probably live to be 100.
