All on the track. NOW this is what the guy who is in his late 60s and has rebuilt generators , starters, and altinaters for years in his repair shop. After you put a new bendix on do not lube it! You want to make things so the flywheel will kick the bendix back after the engine gets up enough speed. That is why some starters have that thin little weak spring on the shaft. The only thing he said will work is powdered graphite. Dump some in the thread of the shaft and gear and work it in by hand to get as much as you can. This will be super slick. Nothing wet that will collect crap. So far my 300U is a thing of beauty when I turn the key.
