We have a "modest" outdoor venue near us, and Merle played there about 6 years ago. Son and I went, great show. Son was the editor of the local newspaper at the time, and asked Merle's manager if he could interview the man after the show. Sure, said he, just come to the bus (and pointed out which one). As the show wound down, Merle left the stage, band played on, Merle came back for a curtain call, then left again, band played on. Son waiting until the end for his interview. Suddenly, while band still playing, bus roared to life and away it went. Son and I looked at each other and started laughing- there goes your interview, son. Run fast, maybe you can catch up. . .
Listening to Merle's 40 greatest hits on the way to and from work for the next few days. RIP Hag.
