Mowing the lawn is one heckuva lot smoother if it is rolled regularly and it won't hurt the grass. I roll the farm grass with a roller made from an old 500 gallon anhydrous tank filled with water. Just did the rolling a couple of days ago. It takes a 50 horse tractor simply because a tractor that size pulls it easily without clawing the turf trying to get traction. I mow dad's lawn in town and it is rough as all get out from night crawlers. Someday I will have a small roller to use on his lawn so I can mow faster than 1 MPH.
