He is talking about the big aluminum pipe on the drivers side of the engine. It should have blue hoses on each end, one connects to the turbo outlet, the other to the charge air cooler. It would be worth a look to make sure the hoses aren't rolled and that the clamps are tight. They should have big heavy clamps with a nut and spring. A Duramax runs like crap and blows black smoke if the CAC pipes come off.
