Nephew is having more problems calving this year than normal - - maybe it's caused by Glo-Bull warming? He checks the cows every 2 hours around the clock, hoping to save more calves that way.
We never tried this with a calf, but it might work. We used it on lambs quite often and it did work great for them. Old neighbor told us that when a lamb wouldn't nurse, pour a teaspoon of whiskey down it's throat. I've watched the lambs look around while licking it's lips from the whiskey and go over to mamma and start nursing with a vigor! Squirting milk in their mouth rarely worked, but that small taste of whiskey saved us a lot of lambs.
Just don't drink more whiskey yourself than you give to the lambs; you may need the whiskey for the next lamb(s).
