My dogs came to me secondhand, their previous owner lived on the edge of a National Forest and would just let them run, so they were not used to staying home, but they would come home when called. We have a large yard fenced with "goat fence" and these dogs would climb over or burrow under, so I finally got the PetSafe stubborn dog fence and wove it into the "goat fence". It became too uncomfortable for the dogs to dig under the fence and they've stayed home pretty good since then, though if one of my big gates is left open they will go thru it at a run, then whimper and whine when they want to come back in.
