I installed one about 7 years ago when my Chesapeake Bay retriever darted out in front of car and was killed instantly. Got a new Chessie and Springer Spaniel and installed invisible fence down along paved road. I just layed wire on top of ground since it is about 2,000 ft. stretch. Well the wire parted several times, I got tired of splicing. That was about 5 years ago. Both dogs still think it is working, and when we go to get the mail, they stop at about 20 ft. from where non-working wire is located!! I reckon a lot of the success depends upon the personality of the dog and what is on the other side of the wire.
