Lillie, You didn't mention what type of tractor that is being considered. If the model that you are considering installing power steering had it available, then, as Gary wrote, a tractor salvage yard would be the place to find the components and the easiest route. Another course would be to use an automotive power steering system. The old Fords have a cylinder on the tie rods and a belt driven pump. Later models of autos and light trucks have an inline power steering unit in the steering column that amplifies the torque applied to steering wheel. In either of these 2 cases you will have to be a person handy with tools for the modification and have access to a machine shop to do milling, drilling, turning, grinding, welding, etc. Auto power steering systems are cheap and easy to acquire, but it requires lots of work. The easiest route would be to get a salvge unit of a similar tractor model. I would guess that the components would range from $500 - $750. Is that expensive? It depends on your need.
