: I saw an old tractor today. The name on the side said
: ASCOT UNIVERSAL. The owner was away and when he's returns
: I'd like to make an offer to buy it ( for my winter renovation
: project. Has anyone ever heard of an Ascot Universal? What could you tell
: me about the brand? THANKS

:Robb; They are romanian copies of old Fiats. They are still being sold here in Canada and Ascot sales were the importing agents. Allis sold their model 5040 and it was a Universal. They are definitely in the lower price range(like Belarus) and do not have a great reputation. Getting Parts can be a real chore. Here in Ontario the best parts source is Fawcett Tractor Supply at St. Mary's and their main enterprise is a salvage yard. They are not Universal agents. If, however you are after a tractor for utility purposes, will operate it judiciously, and will not be counting on it for full throttle, dawntodusk work, it may serve you very well. Good Luck. Tom

Is that efficency? Actually, it took more time to explain than it really did to do the inspection. At any rate we decided that a compression test was in order so we could verify the internal engine status. That way we wouldn't buy any tune up parts until we were sure that the engine was in reasonable mechanical condition. Our tests showed a fictional compression reading of 85, 80, 82 and 86 psi. That is well within a ... [Read Article]
