I have to wonder... does the higher priced filters work better??
Oil filters are designed only to filter out larger particles and not the super fine one.
yes the better filters might have a few more pleats of material... but if you run a filter long enough to stop up the pleats, You will damage the engine no matter what kind of filter you run.
And yes,, some of the filters have "better" anti-drAIN back valves... they use metal instead of plastic... but the metal will rust and not seat well due to condensation, and the plastic will not. So again, the argument is..... does it really make much difference?? If your filter is verticle, then an antidrain back valve does almost nothing anyway... If horizonal, it becomes a bit more important... But if you use a GOOD oil, it will cling and prevent dry starts anyway.
If your changing your oil on a fairly regular basis, the filter is probably the LEST of your worries....
I use mostly the cheap phram filters,, and change oil on a reasonable schedule, use only a hd oil, and have no sludge, no wear problems, and great life out of the engines.
More tractors are damaged/ruined by water through the exhaust or no antifreeze than from most any other reason.
A rain cap or elbow on the exhaust, and keeping the antifreeze up, and oil changes are the way to go..
I would be more concerned about water getting down the exhuast... or the coffee can blowing off, or the green bean can rusting out.... or running cheap oil....
