Just remembered a neat story. A good friend operated one. They pulled it behind a chevy ton truck same age. To pull it he put the bucket on the truck bed, and bolted it then lifted the front wheels and away they went. One day in the dead of winter, the chevy wouldn't start. So they pushed it with the 8n. Truck wouldn't start, to cold to look and was getting dark. So Hamp just shifted it to high medium. Then crawled over the hood into the truck then into the cab. They never stoped till got home, about 5 miles. The brakes on the chevy would stop it. Ment to say everyone I saw being used had a Sherman trans. Low med and high.
