I tried putting a hay feeder over a calf with the loader last year with the same idea in mind. No matter what side I tried to get in to tag the calf the mother was waiting for me. I even tried going over the hood. I finally gave up and caught the calf the next day while it's mother was preoccupied elsewhere. Tagging can be dangerous business. I'd make sure that cage on your atv is built strong enough. I wouldn't want to be in it while a cow was trying to destroy it, though better than out in the open. Most of my cows are fine with tagging but you never trust them 100%.
