2,4d did a pretty good job cleaning up my fields, but was not through enough. I was plagued by a woody root plant called tick treefoil (sp?) and 2,4d wouldn't touch it. I also had some clover that the 2,4d would mostly kill, but not wipe out. Mostly I bought the Pasturegard to deal with the tick treefoil as it was recommended by ag extension agent working with me to identify the weed and kill it.
The Pasturegard wiped out - really everything except the grass hay in my fields. I had great quality orchard grass, native grass mix hay - no weeds. Probably the first time truely weed free hay has been made on this farm for a generation. Pasturegard also has no residuals and you can cut hay sooner after applying than 2,4d.
But - it's EXPENSIVE!!!!!!
I'll still use 2,4d, but on my new timothy fields, I'll start out using Pasturegard.
