Stan I can't help you because I'm the 'other way'. I did have your problem one time after I had neck surgery. Was in the hosp three days on opiods after the surgery and didn't move all the time I was there. When they sent me home they gave me some stool softener and told me to use it. I didn't take the stuff because I have never needed it in my life, in fact Imodium has been my best friend and this was the first time I had been on prescription pain meds. After five days of not going I wasn't feeling very well. Marilyn told me I was because I was stopped up, I'd never experienced this so I didn't know how it felt. I finally took the stool softener, then I took some more. No movement. I have a severe intolerance to chocolate, it makes me, um, move if I eat chocolate so finally I ate a chocolate candy bar. The chocolate dissolved the cement and in fifteen minutes it came with a vengeance, talk about harsh laxative! LOL I haven't touched chocolate since then.
I hope someone comes up with an idea to help you though this and good luck with the hip. Marilyn has a big ol bone spur in her hip but she wants to tough it out till she goes on medicare next August. Six months is a long time.
