We had a fairly hilly farm next to a lake with land more suited to gravel pits and grazing. We had about 120acres in pasture between the hills and the low meadow by the lake. Dad would sometimes get asked why he chose Swiss over Holstien and he would explain that they were bread in the Alps and less prone to fall off the hills. Some say they're stubborn, but after milking for neighbors who had Holsteins I would say they are a more low keyed breed. To the point of stubborn indifference.
