: I have just purchased a 1951 Ford 8N and am replacing oil seals, brakes etc. The problem I have is that the : hole for the link pin (that attaches to the lower lever of the lift) has been rounded out (ovaled to be exact) : because of a loose link pin. Is there an easy way to resolve this problem. If I : put the link pin back in the hole will become even more out of : round and more oil will leak out. I fear that with a load on the lower lift arm, the : Axel houseing might even break. One estimate to have : a machine shop repair it would be close to $200. The hole : is tapered to accomodate the link pin. How much does a : new axel housing run?? IS there an epoxy filler that would : work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance I would try brazing instead of welding . There is mcuh less chance of stress cracking . Edward is right, you need a good welder because cast iron must be preheated and allowed to cool slowly to avoid cracking . Good brazing will be very strong and should last a lifetime .I rebuilt a cracked front axle housing on a MF 240 by brazing then boring and bushing it and it hasn't broken yet even with very hard abuse by it's owner . $200 is not bad for a machine shop to do it for you . Our machine shop would charge a lot more ( 45.00 per hr. ) . If you find a good used one , you would be better off though . Good Luck , Ford Man
