Electrical questions draw a ton of responses (me included lol) so I will fire the first shot.

Its so much NOT "LINE voltage drop" along/across a circuit from say a panel to some sort of livestock facility that shocks an animal..

WHAT SHOCKS AN ANIMAL IS BECAUSE THE APPLIANCE/TOOL/WATERER THE ANIMAL TOUCHES HAS A VOLTAGE POTENTIAL HIGHER THEN THE EARTH/CONCRETE/FLOOR UPON WHICH THEY ARE STANDING

Such an increased voltage potential greater then the earth/floor upon which the animal stands may be caused by a short,,,,,,,,,,,, or by poor resistive or loose connections,,,,,,,,,,,,or poor/loose or improper grounding,,,,,,,,,,,or poor or resistive Neutral bonding,,,,,,,,,,,,or poor/loose or resistive equipment grounding conductor to the outer metallic conductive case/frame of a tool or appliance,,,,,,,,,,,,,or a short in say a stock tank water heater,,,,,,,,,,or inductive or capacitor coupling along long parallel wire runs which raises the voltage of the equipment ground above mother earth BUT I ADMIT SUCH POOR CONNECTIONS HAVE A VOLTAGE DROP ACROSS THEM so a person could say "voltage drop is the cause of the shock" HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM pick your words and take your choices lol

AND SEVERAL OTHER FACTORS WHICH OTHER ELECTRICIANS AND SPARKIES MIGHT ADD TO THIS

Hopefully other sparkies can add to this, I'm in a hurry for now, but I DONT SEE "LINE VOLTAGE DROP" AS WHY ANINLAS ARE SHOCKED although sure a voltage drop across a poor ground or neutral can be such a cause as described above !!!!!!!!!!!!! OTHER THEN SUREEEEEEEEE A POOR GROUND OR NEUTRAL CONNECTION HAS A VOLTAGE DROP ACROSS IT IF YOURE CONSIDERING THAT AS A VOLTAGE DROP CAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WITH WHICH I DO AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!ALTHOUGH I STILL CONSIDER THE CASUE OF THE SHOCK TO BE BECAUSE THE TOOL OR APPLIANCE THEN HAS A RESULTANT VOLTAGE HIGHER THEM MOTHER EARTH WHERE THE ANIMAL STANDS

May just be a wording difference lol as a voltage drop across a poor loose resistive connection can be why the voltage of the tool/appliance is indeed HIGHER then earth???????????????? I guess the difference is

"LINE VOLTAGE DROP" VERSUS LOOSE CONNECTIONS RESISTIVE VOLTAGE DROP AS THE CAUSE????????????

John T Long retired electrical engineer and rusty on this SO NO WARRANTY
