Not sure if they did as many companies do, and offered a "benefit package" which the employee has to sign stating that if they continue to work until their respective release date they receive pay and benefits for a few weeks/months usually based on seniority. I know where I used to work this was the case, and in some cases the employee found it hard to refuse as it amounted to full pay and health insurance along with retraining benefits for months beyond their release. Of course if you walked, it was gone, and unless you had another job that was comparable, most could not afford to walk, thus they managed to keep the workforce going until they moved the operation. I witnessed hundreds of co-workers train workers that were brought up from Mexico, and train those workers only to walk out with tears in their eyes. Many had 30+ years of seniority.
