See my other post about having an open wire. I fully agree with your post, but it's not a perfect world. A local electrician brags about having an open finder. He has even done some work for my employer. But when he came out to my house, his finder was clueless. He told me it was the first time that it had ever happened. He dug a single hole, found no problems and then told me that by the time he dug 2 or 3 more holes that it would be worth it just to buy new wire. He loaded up his backhoe, packed away his "open finder" locator, told me that he wouldn't charge me for his time, and hit the road. I haven't got a bill yet.
