I once owned an Ace Hardware store. I would haul 4 or 5 pallets of concrete mix from the plant, about 80 miles away. Had an old 2 ton chevy, just put a new set of rear tires on a few days before. I loaded up and stopped by my daughter's appartment. I parked the truck in the alley behind her appartment and went to lunch with her.I came back, got on the interstate and started home. The steering felt a little strange, like maybe a low tire. I decided to stop at the first convienent place which was a roadside park several miles down the Interstate. I pulled off the exit, when I slowed down to about 30mph both right duals came off. One went under the truck and bent the driveshaft. This old truck had 10 lugs on it with castle lock nuts but they held on both wheels. I checked the lugs with a wrench at least once after I had the tires replaced. I expect someone took the lugs off and tried to kick the outside tire off but the load was too heavy. Every sack of concrete mix was in place after I stopped.Real rough landing though.
