Don't assume the bank will laugh at you until you've talked to them. Don't know where you are at, but some places you can buy 80 acres and sell two twenty acre pieces for what the 80 cost. You get 40 acres for doing the deal. And taking the risk.
Of course it depends on locale, zoning laws, etc. but don't assume it is impossible until you try. It takes some leg work, but it can be done if you research the local laws and figure out what you can do. You might wind up with rough land you have to clean up, but if the price is right, it gives you something to do with your equipment.
