I kinda started out like you. I bought a farm with 5 acres. Talked to a friend's mother that liked me and told her I would like to start farming and she let me rent her 15 acres. Bought a tractor and planted that to alfalfa. I've rented little fields from 4 acres up to 20 and bought a little chunk and now up to 80 acres. Have a line on a couple more chunks. Been at it for 7-8 yrs and I'm finally getting to the point where I can upgrade some stuff, not very new, but better than I had. It's a constant struggle, but enjoy it. I'm also lucky enough to have bigger farm neighbors that I know well or have worked for in the past that let me borrow or rent what I didn't/don't have. They're a big help. I definitely not making money hand over fist, but I haven't went under yet. Definitely not been a fast growth.
