I have a "42 John Deere " H" with electric start etc. Just had starter rebuilt and installed it today. Does great on first try, but, the nut on the end of the Bendix (castle nut with cotter pin) shears the pin and unwinds the nut from the shaft. I replaced it twice now and it's done it both times. Never done it in the past 7 years that I had it. Any ideas? I have double checked that all the springs, washers, and spacers are in right order too.
I posted this on the John Deere Forum and haven't received a reply there, thought on a general forum someone might have a idea of what's going on with this starter.
