Forgot to mention, just the other day I went to start my Farmall C that had been sitting a long time, no battery case. When I hit the starter I saw a spark on the negative post. Tightened the battery clamp. Hit the starter the second time, saw a spark on the positive post. Tightened the positive post and tractor started without blowing up the battery. So my battery just sitting there without being used, must not have produced much hydrogen or if it did, it wasn't trapped there by the battery case.
Maybe it's a good thing I don't have a battery case so my battery can vent like batteries in cars and trucks.
