We bought a cheap plastic bodied meat slicer at the hardware 11 years ago. Though we should try one , never having had a slicer before, didn't want to spend a lot on some thing that might just set in the cupboard unused. At the time we had 3 kids in school, and lunches to make . A left over roast of beef , passed over the meat slicer made great sandwich meat, like wise with ham . Cuts meat just a thin as they can in a deli, but a lot less $$$ , and the kids loved it. At first we though , "this flimsy thing will never last" ,so when we saw a stainless steel meat slicer come on sale we bought one for when the plastic one gives out. Well we are still waiting.
