i agree, you basically have 2 ways to set this up, keep in mind, due to the size difference in the compressor pulley, and the motor pulley if you want to go just the 2 pulleys, one of the units must be on a slotted mount so you can tighten the belt, also the belt needs to contact the motor pulley at least halfway around it or more, otherwise it will slip under load and burn off your belt, probably 3 to 4 feet from the compressor pulley the other way is to use at least one idler pulley to tension the belt, the longest lasting idler pulley would be one designed for a car engine air conditioning system that ran v belts, these have big and replaceable bearings in them, even then keep in mind you want as much of the belt to contact the pulleys as possible, also when finding the right size belt for your set up remember its not just the length, the belt must also be the right width for the pulleys, a v belt does not run in the bottom of the pulley groove, it makes its contact on the sides of the pulley
