If I remember correctly on my 1990 K1500, the same thing happened. I had the tape player with equalizer in it. I would take the cassette/ equalizer out. I had a bad connection in there somewhere. Just try tapping and jiggling it around and hook and unhook the wires. I think you can even take the cover off to access the inside of it to see if anything looks shorted out. Fixed it every time and it would work for probably a year or 2, then I would have to do it again.
