I would not do it. The only living space I would put in a barn is maybe a two room apartment for short term use. I have a 40x100 steel pole shed with 16' walls that I worked on most of last year. There is a lot of dampness in winter. Lot of dust the rest of the year. Can be noisy. I grow grain and hay so mice are a plague. There are odors associated with equipment you might have in there. Some of this stuff is flammable also. Gas and hydro fluid smell and the latter seems to get all over everything no matter what you do. If there is grain then expect it to smell like a cereal factory also. On the up side, hay can smell really nice but you probably won't make it out if it catches fire.
Guess a lot depends on what you will do with the half you do not live in, but I would either go with an all wood, non pole barn, building or build my house across the drive from it.

Dad bought the 202 new in 1962, and I recall quite clearly going to the dealer with him to sign for it.
