My dad was another one who didn't know how to turn on a welder. A short welding class in farm mechanics school was my first training. The rest I have picked up myself , a lot of it from this site. Thanks guys. 99% of my welding has been easy mild steel farm fab or repair using old rusty steel for most of it. I have been able to afford new steel for only the past 7 or 8 years. What a treat it is to have new steel but I don't do much fab work anymore. I have a mig and it is real handy but I am still more at ease with a stick.
