I've read accounts by guys that claim to have done that, but I would THINK it would be very restrictive on the intake side of the external pump, NOT good.
Some older low fuel pressure throttle body units may have a "turbine pump" in the tank, which wouldn't be as restrictive, but units with higher pressure FI use gerotor or possibly vane pumps which (I would think) would be VERY restrictive (if not impossible) to try to draw fuel through.
