Tried one on a big Olds V8 one time. It didn't warm anything except it looked like it burned the oil that came in contact with it. If you're in a cold place it will never keep up with what a diesel engine, which in many cases has a larger oil capacity, will need and if you're not in a cold place you won't need it. Invest your money in a good block heater or a tank heater. By "tank heater" I mean the type that hooks up to the block drain and runs up to the upper radiator hose. Get a 1500w and it'll keep anything warm. My neighbor has a 50 year old Ford 5000 that sits outside with the tank heater plugged in and it starts up in any kind of weather.
